About June's Senior Cat Rescue June's Senior Cat Rescue (JSCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing homeless senior cats throughout New Mexico with the love, care, and dignity they deserve for the rest of their days. Our small and passionate team works alongside a network of dedicated fosters, volunteers, and community supporters to give senior cats a second chance.
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator is a new role created to support JSCR's day-to-day operations and provide meaningful relief to the Executive Director. This person will be the operational heartbeat of the rescue, managing program administration, helping care for cats and supporting fosters, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. This role is ideal for someone who genuinely loves cats, is highly organized, comfortable moving between hands-on animal care and administrative work, and finds satisfaction in making a mission-driven organization function well. For the right person, there is potential for advancement.
Compensation:
$21-$24 per hour, depending on experience. This is a part-time role of approximately 20 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduling. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the day-to-day coordination of programs and operations, helping keep the rescue organized, responsive, and running smoothly while contributing across functions as needed.
● Serve as a forward-facing point of contact across all areas of the rescue, in person, by phone, and online
● Manage inquiries, applications, and records across JSCR programs, maintaining accurate tracking and responding to participants in a timely manner
● Organizing program materials within the development of administrative systems
● Assist with routine cat care, including handling cats, monitoring, feeding, and cleaning in an environment with multiple free-roaming cats on a scheduled basis
● Manage veterinary care logistics, including scheduling, transport, clinic communications, and appointment attendance, and, as needed, support end-of-life care
● Manage general email, post office runs, and event logistics support as needed
Minimum Qualifications

● A genuine commitment to animal welfare and an understanding of feline behavior, care, and needs
● Emotional maturity to support end-of-life moments with compassion and grace
● Exercises sound judgment, acts with integrity, takes initiative appropriately, and knows when to seek guidance
● Confident and professional in difficult conversations
Operational Skills
● Highly organized with strong attention to detail
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Comfortable working in a growing organization where priorities, processes, and responsibilities may evolve
● Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on animal care in a hybrid work environment
● Proficient in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office (including Excel) and comfortable learning new technology
Role Requirements
● Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and ability to transport cats to veterinary appointments and other rescue-related activities
● Resides within approximately 20 minutes of JSCR's Northeast Heights location to support the on-site and time-sensitive responsibilities of the role
● Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and to bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks as required
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in animal welfare, veterinary medicine, nonprofit operations, or program administration
● Veterinary technician experience, training, or certification
● Education or coursework in veterinary technology, animal science, nonprofit management, or a related field
● Experience coordinating volunteers, foster programs, or community outreach
● Knowledge of feline behavior, senior cat care, or hospice care
