MRI Technologist
Location: VA Portland Health Care System – Portland, OR & Vancouver, WA
Contract Duration: 1-year base contract with up to four option years
Schedule: Primarily 8-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday
Employment: Full-Time, approximately 2,080 hours per year
Credentialing: Approximately 6–8 weeks
Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to support the VA Portland Health Care System at facilities in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington. The MRI Technologist will perform high-quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations while ensuring patient safety, accurate positioning, proper imaging protocols, and compliance with facility and VA policies.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of MRI experience, current ARRT (MRI) credentials, and recent MRI experience in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex MRI examinations according to radiologist-approved protocols.
- Conduct MRI studies of the head, neck, spine, chest, abdomen, and extremities.
- Verify patient identity, medical history, pregnancy status, and MRI safety requirements before examinations.
- Prepare, position, and monitor patients throughout MRI procedures.
- Operate superconductive MRI systems safely and effectively.
- Ensure high-quality diagnostic images and make appropriate technical adjustments when necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient and imaging documentation in RIS/PACS and applicable VA systems.
- Follow established MRI safety, infection control, and patient safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with radiologists, chief technologists, nurses, and other clinical staff.
- Provide compassionate and professional patient care.
- Participate in on-call, after-hours, or emergency imaging coverage as required.
- Follow all applicable VA policies, procedures, and facility requirements.
Required Qualifications
- ARRT certification with MRI specialty – ARRT (MR/MRI).
- Current BLS certification; American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of MRI Technologist experience.
- Recent hospital-based MRI experience, preferably within the last 6 months. Candidates with experience within the last 9 months may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of advanced MRI protocols and MRI safety practices.
- Experience operating superconductive MRI equipment.
- Strong patient care, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Pay: $70.00 - $75.00 per hour
