Bussers need to have strong multitasking skills, keep pace with the busyness of the restaurant, and be efficient with their time. This is particularly crucial during solo shifts and peak hours of service, as they are part of the responsibility of helping with the overall pace and flow of the dining room.
Busser Responsibilities

Make sure that the dining areas are ready for service

Knows all table numbers and server sections

Takes ownership of the look and cleanliness of the tables in the restaurant

Is constantly pre-bussing, picking up trash from the floor, straightening tables and chairs, etc., as needed

Completes all opening, ongoing, and closing side work
-
Clears, cleans, and resets tables efficiently and effectively, including sweeping under tables when needed
-
Manages and changes the sani-bucket every two hours and towels as needed

Sets up incoming bussers for success by restocking and communicating with the incoming staff

Answers guest questions if possible or immediately gets their server or MOD

Keeps ice in the server/bar stations well-stocked

Sorts dirty dishes and flatware to appropriate locations in the dish area, scrapes all remaining food off dishes, and stacks them in an organized manner

Polishes glassware and silverware as needed

Is occasionally expected to mop up spills and broken glass, and clean up any messes that may occur during business hours

Performs all assigned tasks to the best of their ability and with the best interest of the restaurant in mind

Is familiar with opening and closing duties as well as daily side work, weekly side work, and janitorial side work.

Helps maintain an organized dish area by supporting DMOs with organizing dirty dishes, and rinsing out/ scrubbing glassware that was used for smoothies, milk-based drinks, or parfaits.

Supports Coffeehouse when possible

Demonstrates basic knowledge of all menu items

Knows where to find and store brooms, mops, and wet floor signs.
Must be at least 16 years of age

Must be able to communicate, write, and understand English

Must have a current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card
Physical Requirements
The employee is required to stand for extended periods and may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
