A.) To assist the Director of Student Support Services and the Assistant Director of Special Education in 1.) The development, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of all Special Education programs2.) Interpreting the philosophy and practices of the Special Education Department to administrators, staff, and the community-at-large3.) Establishing procedures for screening, placement, evaluation, and assignment4.) Promoting and implementing any new regulations pertaining to Special Education5.) Determining the need for new programs and services6.) Evaluating existing programs as to their effectiveness to recommend changes wherever deemed necessary7.)Supervising and evaluating personnel within the Special Education Department8.) Aiding the Director of Student Support and Assistant Director of Special Education in the selection of new personnel and their assignment9.) Initiating and developing in service training programs for all staff members10.) Holding department meetings on a regular basis11.) Cooperating fully with public and private agencies, support services, physicians, parents, etc., in securing and providing services12.) Performing such other tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services or Assistant Director of Special EducationB.) Exercise authority to commit resources of the district in the interest of promoting student success and addressing student needs as outlined/discussed during IEP development by organizing, conducting, and managing IEP evaluation meetings for students both in-district and out-of-districtC.) Maintain ongoing caseload and responsible for monitoring special education DESE district compliance with servicesD.) Organize, conduct, and manage IEP evaluation meetings both in-district and out-of-district placement. Be able to facilitate IEP meetings in an efficient, collaborative, and empathetic mannerE.) Act as a liaison with Collaborative, state, and private agencies as well as private schools for providing services to eligible Wilmington Public Schools students
