The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a patient centered Lab Tech II, Medical Assistant II or Paramedic 60% (24 hours per week) to work with our Urgent Care Clinics. This position also will have a supportive laboratory focus (providing phlebotomy support as well as point of care testing).

Summary:
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician II performs phlebotomy and a variety of difficult venipuncture procedures, difficult technical procedures, and other associated responsibilities in the clinical laboratory, while maintaining laboratory area and equipment.
Duties to include:
- Staff will support our Urgent Care Clinics and will float to multiple locations based on staffing need
- Performs routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens.
- Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability.
- Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability.
- Records results of laboratory testing and reports results in the Laboratory Information System and to clinicians in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.

Percent of Time: 60% (24 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday-Friday with variable hours between 9am - 9:30pm; no weekends, no holidays, no on call; primarily 12-hour shifts

Laboratory Technician II:
Pay Grade: 8 https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/merit-plan
Salary: $23,452.42 - $34,903.01
Education Required
- Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR
- Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR
- Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.
Special Qualification:
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards and availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Strong phlebotomy skills
- Previous experience with lab audits
- Previous experience handling and processing lab specimens
- Previous EPIC and Beaker experience
- Previous walk-in clinic experience
- Assist and coordinate proficiency testing for moderate complexity instruments
- Previous experience in performing routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids, which may include but not limited to: Piccolo, CMP’s, CBS’s, etc
- Performs routine moderate complexity testing including but not limited to urinalyses, rapid antigen kit tests, and various pot of care tests. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens.

Salary: $24,542.35 - $36,456.48 (based on years of experience)
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Certification as a Medical Assistant OR
- Registration as a Medical Assistant OR
- Completion of a recognized one year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)
Special Qualification:
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards and availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours

Salary: $29,227.82 - 38,097.65 at 60% (based on years of experience)
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- · Graduation from high school, and
- Current paramedic certification by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, and
- Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association, and
- Current course completion card in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association. (within 60 days of hire)
Special Qualification
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards and availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours
Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum 6 month experience as a paramedic in an acute care setting.
- Strong phlebotomy skills
