Birdseye is seeking a reliable and experienced Equipment Operator to join our excavation team. The Equipment Operator will safely operate heavy equipment on a variety of construction and excavation projects, including site preparation, utility installation, grading, trenching, road construction, and land development. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and backhoes.
- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling operations according to project plans and specifications.
- Work around underground utilities and maintain awareness of utility locates and site hazards.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project layouts.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required maintenance reports.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning.
- Coordinate with foremen, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members to ensure efficient project completion.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and project issues.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Assist with other construction and excavation tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in excavation, construction, or related industries.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of construction equipment.
- Knowledge of excavation practices, utility installation, grading, and site development is a plus.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety requirements and hazard recognition.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, willingness to learn and take constructive feedback.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
- OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Certification.
- Experience with GPS machine control systems and laser grading equipment.
- Experience working around underground utilities, water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends as required by project schedules.
- Vision and hearing sufficient to safely operate heavy equipment and maintain awareness of surrounding hazards.

- Outdoor construction and excavation sites.

- Work performed in proximity to heavy equipment, traffic, utilities, and other construction hazards.
