Job Overview
CNC Machinist
Sherle Wagner International — Fall River, Massachusetts
About Sherle Wagner
Sherle Wagner International is a maker of ultra-luxury bath fixtures and hardware, hand-crafted in the USA since 1945. Our Fall River, Massachusetts factory combines old-world techniques — lost-wax casting, hand-chasing, hand-polishing, and 19-finish electroplating (including 24k gold and platinum) — with precision machining to produce faucets, fittings, and hardware in solid brass and bronze, often paired with rock crystal, onyx, marble, and semiprecious stone. Our pieces are made to order for the world's most discerning residential and hospitality projects.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our in-house metal shop. This role is responsible for precision-machining cast brass and bronze components — valve bodies, spouts, escutcheons, stems, and decorative hardware — to the tight tolerances required for watertight assemblies and flawless hand-finishing. The work sits at the intersection of production machining and fine craftsmanship: parts leaving your machine go directly into hand-chasing, polishing, and plating, so precision and surface quality both matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes to machine cast brass and bronze components from lost-wax castings to finished dimensional spec.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T callouts for custom and standard fittings.
- Write, edit, and prove out CNC programs (G-code); make offset and tooling adjustments to hold tolerance across production runs.
- Machine threads, bores, and sealing surfaces to specifications required for water-tight valve and drain assemblies.
- Perform in-process and final inspection using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and other precision measuring tools; maintain inspection records.
- Select and maintain appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work-holding for varied casting geometries, including one-off and custom-order pieces.
- Identify casting defects or machining issues that could affect fit, function, or finish, and flag them before parts move downstream to hand-finishing.
- Collaborate with the foundry, hand-finishing, and engineering teams to support both standard catalog production and custom/bespoke orders.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop; perform routine machine maintenance.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on CNC milling and/or turning experience in a precision machining environment; job-shop or low-volume/high-mix experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
- Working knowledge of G-code/M-code; CAM software experience (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar) a plus.
- Experience machining brass, bronze, or other non-ferrous castings preferred.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, thread and bore gauges).
- Strong attention to detail — parts you machine are visible in the finished, hand-polished product.
- Ability to work from first-article and small-batch runs as well as larger production quantities.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience machining components for plumbing, valve, or hardware applications (thread forms, sealing surfaces, o-ring grooves).
- Familiarity with lost-wax/investment casting workflows and the tolerances typical of cast parts.
- Experience supporting custom or made-to-order manufacturing, not just repeat production runs.
