Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Engineer II is to reconstruct vehicular accidents using engineering methodologies. This position is responsible for documenting and studying evidence at the scene to develop conclusions about the causes of accidents, reviewing relevant materials (photographs, witness statements, depositions, interrogatories, police reports, and/or other file material).
Core Responsibilities
* Conducts engineering analysis and accident reconstruction involving commercial, passenger, and/or other vehicles, including, but not limited to, heavy trucks, buses, passenger vehicles, motorcycles, ATV’s, bicycles, and/or other vehicles and/or modes of transportation; pedestrians, drivers, operators, passengers, and/or other individuals/groups, as assigned
* Performs on-site inspections of accident scenes, including, but not limited to all involved motor and other vehicles and specific parties associated with the accident through the use of 3D Scans, field surveys, specialized photography, vehicle damage profiling, scale replication, occupant motion (kinematics) analysis, video re-enactment, field testing and re-enactment of events
* Collects and documents physical evidence; damage, accident scene, roadway configuration, Event Data Recorder, security and dashcam video
* Performs analysis of vehicle safety systems for proper functioning
* Performs vehicle dynamics research, including but not limited to, full-scale vehicle testing and data acquisition
* Investigates mechanical system failures and accidents, including researching mechanical system designs and operations
* Investigates and reconstruct commercial, passenger, and other accidents using engineering and/or scientific methodologies, as appropriate and reviewing materials (photographs, witness statements, depositions, police reports, medical and chiropractic records, etc.) to provide forensic conclusions
* Performs computer analysis and calculations. Provides timely and accurate technical findings in both verbal and written form
* Establishes a final determination in the cause of accidents through analysis of all gathered evidence
* Produces written and graphical summaries and reports of scientific findings and conclusions detailing the supporting documentation of the cause of the accident or collision
* Provides expert witness testimony during court trials or court depositions

* Ability to report to accident locations within pre-determined timeframes

* Ability to safely and effectively drive and/or operate full-size pickup trucks; ability to share driving responsibilities, as required
* Promotes strategic and generative discussions; attends meetings as required
* Prepares and delivers technical/educational presentations
* Creates correspondence, reports, and communication material as needed
* Elicits cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including vendors, subcontractors and other internal departments
* Consistently contributes to the growth of the customer base
* Conducts automotive research on a consistent basis, including but not limited to, current vehicle data, weather reports, and former crash analysis trends
* Strives for 100% customer satisfaction; communicates clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and seeks clarification
* Effectively manages difficult or emotional situations; responds promptly to staff needs; solicits feedback to improve cases, responds promptly and effectively to concerns/issues and develops and communicates prompt solutions; solicits appropriate advisory assistance as applicable

Supervisory Responsibilities
* Mentors and develops field team members (Ex: technicians) while effectively managing the overall team
* May act as a liaison for company and employee communication
* Monitors and evaluates the performance of all assigned personnel, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals
* Attends periodic meetings with staff and management as necessary
* Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises team members, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
* Monitors, ensures and oversees work quality and safety
* Handles employee grievances and maintains harmonious employee relations. Counsels and coaches’ employees, develops performance appraisals, conducts reviews and provides resources to assist employees to improve and maximize performance

* 1+ years mechanical engineering or related automotive experience
* Ability to complete and pass Accident Reconstruction Class I & II
* Can work overnights, weekends, holidays, and/or whenever required to do so
* Ability to speak publicly

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
* B.S. Degree Mechanical Engineering
* The Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstructionist (ACTAR) Certification and/or the ability to receive and/or maintain ACTAR Certification, Preferred
* Valid Driver’s License
* Clean driving record and background required at all times
Pay: $71,308.03 - $85,876.34 per year
