JOB TITLE: CHARTER SCHOOL CUSTODIAL STAFF, Elementary School
SUMMARY:
Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment by performing cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance, including trash removal, floor care (sweeping, mopping, waxing), dusting, restroom sanitizing, window washing, and restocking supplies, while also handling security, event setup, and reporting larger repair needs.
Operates cleaning equipment, follows safety protocols for chemicals, and may assist with groundskeeping and building security, often working flexible or evening hours.
Works with team members to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals.
Works effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, staff and community populations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Cleaning & Sanitation: Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish classrooms, offices, hallways, and restrooms; clean windows and mirrors; sanitize fixtures.
Waste Management: Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly.
Floor Care: Perform general cleaning and deep cleaning like stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet shampooing.
Supply Management: Stock restrooms and replenish soap, paper towels, and other consumables; manage inventory of cleaning supplies.
Maintenance & Repairs: Perform minor repairs, change light bulbs/ceiling tiles, replacing filters if appropriate, hang bulletin boards, securing shelving and report major maintenance issues to supervisors.
Security: Lock and unlock buildings, secure doors/windows, and ensure overall facility safety.
Event Support: Set up, break down, and clean for school events, meetings, and activities.
Summer work: Annual property repairs and maintenance such as painting, wall repair, deep cleaning, and supporting staff with furniture/equipment movement.
Groundskeeping: May include basic outdoor tasks like clearing walkways and driveways.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Physical Ability: Stamina for physical tasks like lifting, standing, bending, climbing ladders and using equipment.
Safety Knowledge: Understanding of chemical safety (MSDS) and emergency procedures.
Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Communication: Collaborate effectively with staff and report issues clearly.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent often required.
First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne certification required. These may be obtained through MLA.
Background Check: Per MLA background check policy due to proximity to students

Time Management:
A minimum 30 minute lunch for every 8 hours worked; to be coordinated with support staff and supervisory personnel.
SALARY, HOURS, APPLICATION AND REPORTING
Salaried/ one (1) FTE: $34,000.00 - $45,693.16 - (monthly: $2,833.33 - $3,807.76)
level determined per years of experience, up to 10 years of experience.
Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 6:00 pm; Friday, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

Reports to the Operations/Finance. (may report to the Executive Director and/or Principal)
