The Physical Sciences Center (PSC) Tutor/Lab Aide is a dual role position. Their duties include assisting students with their lecture and lab materials. Additionally, they will need to assist in the daily operations of the PSC and its associated labs, this includes providing support services to students, faculty and other PSC staff.

Minimum Education/Experience
Must provide documentation exhibiting the grade of B (or better) in any course(s) they plan to assist students with for the PSC.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Physical Sciences Center and Labs
Basic computer skills
Knowledge relevant to tutoring any course work for which the applicant is applying.
Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area
Must be able to adhere to policies, procedures and guidelines to assure personal safety, and the safety of other personnel
Must be able to independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position
Must be adept at problem-solving and conflict resolution
Must be punctual and reliable
Must demonstrate effective communication, customer service expertise, and human relations skills while performing at work
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to constantly grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently move about the Chemistry/Physics Lab to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office/lab equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to push, pull, grasp, and/or lift materials or equipment.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to work with lab equipment or assist students.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed in an indoor, office or lab setting.
This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to hazards such as but not limited to: close proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat, chemicals, oils, or infectious diseases, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases.
Preferred Qualifications
Completed general chemistry I & II
AND/OR
Completed physics I & II
(equivalent course work will be evaluated and accepted)
Required Training
All OCCC training that is appropriate for this position when offered.
Work Hours
Flexible work schedule ranging from 10 – 25 hours per week, may include nights or weekends depending on PSC operational requirements. Hours are set each semester.
