Clone Technician
General Position Summary
The Clone Technician is a skilled and experienced individual responsible for cannabis plant propagation through cloning. This role requires a deep understanding of cloning processes and plant care, ensuring the successful production of strong, healthy clones. The Clone Technician is expected to work independently and efficiently under the nursery lead, while maintaining compliance with all regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The position plays a critical role in the cultivation team's success, requiring collaboration with the Nursery Lead and other team members.
Responsibilities
- Execute advanced cloning techniques, including cutting, rooting, and transplanting clones, with a high level of precision and care.
- Consistently monitor and assess clone health, identifying and addressing any issues related to moisture, humidity, nutrients, or light levels.
- Oversee the daily management of mother plants, ensuring their health for optimal clone production.
- Prepare and maintain growing media, ensuring accurate nutrient composition and environmental conditions.
- Apply biostimulants, pesticides, and fungicides following Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols.
- Maintain strict biosecurity protocols to prevent contamination and disease spread, including the regular sanitation of tools, workspaces, and equipment.
- Assist in developing and implementing cultivation strategies to improve clone success rates and plant quality.
- Catalog and maintain accurate clone inventories, including METRC tagging and detailed record-keeping.
- Train and mentor less-experienced team members on cloning and nursery processes, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
- Report on clone propagation metrics, escalating any concerns regarding pests, pathogens, or environmental conditions to the Nursery Lead.
- Continuously scout for pests, diseases, or growth anomalies and take corrective actions promptly.
- Perform regular maintenance of the cloning and nursery areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization at all times.
- Collaborate with other cultivation team members to ensure smooth transitions from clone to vegetative stages.
- Complete any additional tasks assigned by the Nursery Lead or Director of Cultivation.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of direct experience in cannabis cloning and plant propagation.
- In-depth knowledge of cannabis plant biology, including strain-specific growth patterns and cloning needs.
- Experience working with mother plants and maintaining their health for long-term productivity.
- Proficiency with nutrient management, including the mixing and application of fertilizers, biostimulants, and pest control solutions.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cloning and early-stage plant growth.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain precise, accurate records for tracking clone health and success rates.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Familiarity with METRC tagging and cannabis compliance regulations.
- Experience working in a warm, humid environment with exposure to cultivation lights, maintaining plant health in conditions averaging 82+ degrees and 65% relative humidity.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sitting or standing, up to 8 hours a day
- Up to 8 hours of repetitive hand motions with extreme focus and concentration to detail(trimming)
- Often stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
- Often Twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl
- Must be comfortable operating and troubleshooting large processing equipment.
- Must be able to work on an environment with moderate to loud noise level
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles
- The employee regularly works with and around loud machinery
- The employee regularly works in high, precarious places
Compensation
$17 - $20 per hour, depending on experience.
