Math InterventionistJob Description 2026-2027The Common School, a progressive N-6th grade school in Western Massachusetts, seeks a part-time Math Interventionist to work collaboratively with teachers and provide small group and individual teaching for elementary students in math. The Common Schools mission is to engage students in a transformative, progressive education that cultivates a love of learning, critical thinking, compassion for others, and a deep commitment to social justice and the environment. The School is surrounded by 140 acres of farm, woodland, ponds, gardens, and conservation land. The Math Interventionist is a part time (10-12 hour/wk) position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Curriculum and InstructionFacilitate a classroom community that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice;Recognize and support each students strengths, needs, and ways of thinking and learning;Communicate and maintain high standards for classroom management using developmentally appropriate routines, classroom systems, positive approaches and restorative practices;Demonstrate effective teaching through collaborative planning, knowledge of content and child development;Provide targeted tiered direct instruction and progress monitoring in math to students on caseloadProvide instruction and support in foundational skills, such as critical thinking, social-emotional competencies, problem solving, self-advocacy, and organizational/study skills; Support in the administration of school-wide benchmark assessments in mathMaintain records of assessment and student monitoring data and use it to make instructional decisions Review student work and provide timely feedback to students and caregivers about their learning;Evaluate curriculum on an ongoing basis to best meet the needs of students and the Schools mission;Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity in curriculum and instructional practices;Engage students in active, multisensory, and engaging learning;When required, provide remote synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning opportunities to support student growth and development.Collaborate regularly with the Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Student Support to engage in development, planning, reflection, and implementation of strategies to meet class and individual student needs; Provide necessary documentation for students with IEPs, 504s and the associated funding and oversightProfessional ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate through positive interprofessional interactions a commitment to the Schools mission and philosophy and diversity, equity and inclusion statement;Coordinate and administer screenings and informal math assessments to students as appropriate;Maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding sensitive information; Maintain an organized, clean, welcoming, and orderly learning environment;Work collaboratively with colleagues to equitably support the educational, social, and emotional development of students across the school;Meet agreements and scheduled deadlines for professional responsibilities;Arrive for teaching times and meetings promptly and meet scheduled deadlines for professional responsibilities;Engage in reflective practice and dialogue to promote ongoing professional growth; CommunicationBuild warm, effective and proactive relationships with students and caregivers;Communicate with students, colleagues, and caregivers with clarity, sensitivity, professionalism, and timeliness; Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with an anti-bias lens, and inclusiveness of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences; Write student math progress reports for students on caseload two times a year, and plan for fall and spring caregiver conferences and student transitions;Communicate and plan with the Lead Teacher on a regular, ongoing basis to ensure clear daily routines, alignment and strong professional collaboration, quality curriculum and instruction, and effective communication with caregivers;
