The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for the regular, full-time position of Sewer Utility Apprentice II within the Water & Sewer Department. A successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing regular maintenance at sewer pump stations, including the maintenance of machinery, generators, force mains, gravity sewer mains, and other sewer infrastructure.
- Visually inspecting equipment in accordance with established procedures, ensuring required materials are available, and returning tools and equipment to their designated locations.
- Adding fuel, changing lubricants, greasing fittings, and hosing and cleaning wet and dry wells.
- Inspecting force mains and laterals from maps, sketches, and drawings.
- Preparing job sites by setting up and placing warning devices and traffic barricades.
- Keeping accurate records of all work completed to include but not limited to work performed, time to complete, unusual incidents, dangerous conditions, and resources used.
- Assisting in snow and ice control. Must have the ability to operate vehicles equipped with snowplows and spreaders.
- Assisting in performing more complex maintenance tasks as assigned.
Must be available for a standby schedule.
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills:
- Ability to understand the township’s sewer collection system and the equipment, materials, and methods used in repairing and maintaining the pump stations
- Ability to effectively operate hand tools, power tools and other related equipment required for the tasks.
- Ability to interpret distribution maps, site plans, and survey markers
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of related experience.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Must have a valid N.J. driver’s license and CDL license with proper endorsement or the ability to obtain within a one-year period. A N.J. state license for collection of wastewaters is a plus.
