SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for attending to patients in a timely and professional manner while providing a first-class customer service experience with all patients. The Ophthalmic Technician performs measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. This position may see patients for our provider within their skill set.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet patients and establish rapport while initiating patient assessments and documenting medical history and ocular findings.
- Conduct pre-exam testing including visual acuity, visual fields, extraocular muscle function, pupillary assessments, tonometry, and dilation, and any other requested patient services.
- Perform specialized diagnostic testing including keratometry, A/B scans, OCT, ophthalmic photography, and optical biometry.
- Perform lensometry, manifest refraction, and mono-vision trials.
- Administer topical ophthalmic medications under physician direction.
- Assist with in-office procedures including patient preparation, informed consent, setup, and cleanup.
- Act as a scribe during patient exams, accurately documenting encounters in the electronic health record.
- Manage prescription refill requests and ensure completion within 24 hours as authorized.
- Educate patients on medication administration and pre- and post-operative instructions.
- Maintain patient flow and assist physicians in managing daily clinic schedules.
- Monitor and document medical refrigerator temperatures daily.
- Maintain inventory, monitor expiration dates, and order diagnostic medications and supplies.
- Prepare instruments for sterile processing and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
- Open and close exam lanes daily and ensure proper cleaning and equipment shutdown procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms throughout the day.
- Comply with all safety, infection control, HIPAA, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
KNOWLEDE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge of ophthalmology terms, conditions and clinical flow preferred.
- Professional verbal communication skills, demonstrating ability to educate patients in a friendly and positive manner.
- Ability to clearly document activities in Electronical Medical Records system preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to move between and progress tasks forward.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Typing, Computer and Data entry
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year of experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry setting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certification Preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This role requires the ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods, as well as frequent walking, patient interaction in a clinical setting, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Pay Range $23.00- $33.00
