Accounting Engineer Persona: Jordan – The Automation & Process Owner
Jordan is the person who sees accounting workflows that are too manual, too slow, or too dependent on individual follow-up — and knows how to make them better.
They understand accounting enough to protect accuracy, controls, reconciliations, close, reporting, and review points. They also understand systems, automation, and AI well enough to streamline work without creating risk.
Jordan does not just support improvement projects. They own them.
They can sit with a Controller, CFO, Accountant, or CEO , understand the pain point, map the current process, identify the root cause, recommend a better workflow, build or coordinate the solution, test it, document it, and help the team adopt it.
Jordan believes accounting efficiency is not about cutting corners. It is about removing waste so the team can spend more time on accuracy, insight, client service, and advisory value.
How Jordan Shows Up
- Owns workflow improvement projects from discovery through rollout
- Builds practical automations that reduce manual work and missed handoffs
- Uses AI thoughtfully to support reporting, documentation, quality control, and communication
- Partners well with Controllers, CFOs, Accountants, Operations, and Tech
- Brings recommendations, not just observations
- Tests, documents, trains, and improves based on feedback
- Balances efficiency, adoption, risk, and quality
Jordan is comfortable saying:
“We can streamline this, but first we need to understand where accuracy, review, and ownership belong.”
Core Strengths
- Accounting workflow improvement
- Automation development
- AI-supported process design
- Systems and data flow
- Documentation and training
- Cross-functional partnership
- Measurable efficiency gains
What Others Say
- Controllers: “They make the close and reporting process easier without weakening controls.”
- CFOs: “They help us get to better information faster.”
- Accountants: “They remove manual steps and clarify what I’m responsible for.”
- Tech Team: “They bring clear requirements and understand where security and access matter.”
- Leadership: “They deliver measurable efficiency gains without creating chaos.”
Accountability & Ownership
Jordan owns assigned accounting workflow, automation, and AI-supported process improvements from idea to implementation.
They identify manual work, missed handoffs, duplicate data entry, rework, unclear ownership, and inefficient data movement. They build or coordinate better workflows, automations, AI-supported processes, SOPs, templates, and training materials.
They monitor adoption, measure results, and escalate accounting, technical, security, or adoption risks early.
What Success Looks Like
- Manual work and rework are reduced
- Automations are actively used and trusted
- AI-supported workflows improve reporting, documentation, quality control, and communication
- Close, reporting, advisory prep, onboarding, and follow-up become faster and more consistent
- Team members understand and follow new workflows
- Financial data moves more cleanly across systems and deliverables
- NLN gains efficiency without sacrificing accuracy, judgment, controls, or client service
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who can independently own accounting workflow, automation, and AI-supported process improvements.
This person is practical, steady, curious, and execution oriented. They understand accounting workflows well enough to know where accuracy and review matter, and they understand systems well enough to build solutions or partner with Tech when needed.
They are not a full AI architect or senior technology leader. They are a hands-on process owner who can improve how accounting work gets done.
