Position Summary
American Anthracite is seeking a highly skilled Technician to oversee the mechanical integrity, physical structure, and processing infrastructure of our anthracite preparation plants.
This is not a light commercial facility role. You will be responsible for the end-to-end reliability of heavy industrial systems—including massive conveyor networks, high-pressure pumps, multi-tier vibrating screens, and complex hydraulic/pneumatic circuits. You will work closely with Plant Operators and the engineering team to minimize unscheduled downtime and maintain our high standards of site safety and structural excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnostic & Predictive Maintenance: Monitor processing plant equipment in operation; listen for and analyze unusual vibrations or acoustic changes to proactively diagnose, troubleshoot, and prevent mechanical breakdowns.
- Heavy Equipment Overhauls: Dismantle, rebuild, and systematically repair complex preparation plant machinery including high-volume slurry pumps, vibrators, crushers, and gearboxes.
- Fluid Power & Piping Stewardship: Install, maintain, and overhaul all heavy-gauge piping systems, related pneumatic/hydraulic controls, pressure regulators, gauges, and high-pressure valves.
- Structural Fabrication & Welding: Use cutting torches and welding apparatus to perform industrial structural repairs, component modifications, and simple field welding tasks across the facility.
- Plant-Wide Inspection: Conduct routine mechanical and electrical infrastructure audits across all conveyor systems, electric motors, hoppers, bins, pockets, and plant chutes to ensure reliable structural throughput.
- Lubrication & Housekeeping: Execute systematic greasing, oiling, and clearing of critical moving parts (bearings, shafts, gears) while maintaining a clean, orderly, and hazard-free maintenance shop and plant floor.
- Emergency Response Support: Provide rapid mechanical intervention during unexpected operational stoppages and assist mobile mechanics, electricians, or other team members on an "as-needed" basis.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain rigorous, transparent maintenance records and equipment logs as required by the supervisor and in alignment with standard safety oversight.
Position Qualifications
- Technical Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience in heavy industrial maintenance, ideally within a mining, aggregate, steel milling, or heavy chemical processing environment.
- Core Competencies: Proficient in industrial pipefitting, structural welding/cutting, blueprint reading, and multi-stage pump rebuilding.
- Safety First Mindset: Complete commitment to workplace hazard identification, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols, and maintaining strict safety standards in an active industrial zone.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Capabilities: Must be comfortably able to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally pull, hoist, or manipulate up to 100 pounds. The role demands active daily mobility, including climbing vertical plant ladders, balancing on elevated walkways, stooping, kneeling, and working within tight industrial envelopes.
- Environment: This is an active, loud heavy industrial environment. Technicians will work around high-velocity moving mechanical systems, precarious heights, and variable outdoor weather conditions. Exposure to wet/humid conditions, airborne particulates, noise, and high-vibration equipment is routine. Continuous personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance is non-negotiable.
