The Surgical Technician acts as a primary scrub person who handles instruments, surgical counts, supplies and equipment needed for surgical/diagnostic procedures. Anticipates surgeon needs and provides prompt and efficient care for the patient through optimal aseptic scrub techniques. Has basic understanding of procedures being performed and maintains the integrity of the sterile field. Non-scrubbed functions are: room readiness, preparation for surgical procedure with supplies/equipment pulled based on preference cards and patient needs, transporting of patients and equipment operation and assisting with circulating duties under the immediate supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists in ordering/stocking of supplies, prepares instruments/supplies for sterilization and in maintaining a safe clean environment. Will be responsible to assist in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Education – Required: High School graduate. CPR certification.
Education – Preferred: Graduate of a Surgical Technology school or on-the-job training. Participation in obtaining certification in surgical technology and membership into the Surgical Technology Association.
Minimum Experience: Two (2) years previous experience in direct-care hospital-oriented field.
