Position Overview
Hands-on HR/Payroll Generalist for a small, multi-company, multi-state operation headquartered in Anaheim, CA, supporting approximately 100 employees companywide. This is a stand-alone, hands-on role responsible for day-to-day payroll and generalist HR administration, working closely with the company's payroll provider and outside employment counsel on complex multi-state and California compliance matters.
Position Details
· Reports To: Controller (day-to-day and payroll); CFO (strategic oversight).
· Employment Type: Full-time.
· FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried).
· Location: On-site, Anaheim, CA headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
· Process full-cycle payroll across multiple companies and states for approximately 40 employees (of approximately 100 companywide), ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery.
· Administer wages, overtime, taxes, garnishments, deductions, and benefit contributions in compliance with federal, state, and local wage-and-hour laws.
· Review and process time and attendance weekly and maintain associated records.
· Maintain and reconcile payroll systems and records; prepare payroll reports and support period-end and year-end close (W-2s, filings).
· Coordinate with the company's payroll provider on multi-state payroll tax registration, withholding, and reporting.
Human Resources
· Manage the full employee lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, and personnel recordkeeping.
· Administer benefits, leaves of absence (FMLA/CFRA), workers' compensation, and open enrollment.
· Reconcile monthly insurance carrier bills.
· Ensure compliance with federal, California, and multi-state employment law, including wage-and-hour, meal/rest, leave, and pay-transparency requirements.
· Maintain the employee handbook, HR policies, and required workplace postings across all entities and states.
· Coordinate employee performance reviews.
· Handle employee relations, workplace investigations, safety matters, and performance-management support.
· Serve as the day-to-day HR point of contact companywide, escalating complex or high-risk matters to leadership and outside counsel.
· Maintain personnel database and analytics, including assisting with personnel budgets.
· Manage other employee programs, including employee appreciation, safety, workplace violence, office functions, and other tasks.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
