EDUCATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Muse Knoxville is a vital educational resource in East Tennessee. As one of the largest providers of science outreach education in the state, our education team interacts with over 60,000 students annually. An Educator at Muse Knoxville provides enrichment for students in Knox County and other regional counties in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) topics. Educators deliver programming at area schools (grades PreK-8th), and after-school programming. Programs are experiential, curriculum-based, and correlate to Tennessee State Standards for Science.
SCHEDULE: Monday- Friday during school hours, some evenings required, 10-20 hours per week
COMPENSATION:
- $23-25 per program hour for curriculum-based instruction, dependent on experience
- Mileage is reimbursed at IRS Standard Business Use from Muse Knoxville to the teaching location

This position reports to the Education Manager. Quarterly feedback, annual reviews, and professional development opportunities are provided.
AS AN EDUCATOR YOU WILL …
- Present lessons in school classrooms using a research-based teaching methodology
- Travel to and facilitate Family Engagement Nights
- Facilitate mobile planetarium shows at various schools and events
- Facilitate engaging school break camps and homeschool classes that provide hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences
- Develop a positive rapport with classroom teachers to market education programs and model best teaching practices
- Communicate with school contacts in a prompt and professional manner
- Manage the organization, maintenance, and replacement of materials for educational programs
- Submit accurate program reports in a timely manner
- Participate in the development and growth of future programs
- Complete required observations and training as needed
- Represent the Muse Knoxville mission and vision in a professional manner
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Must pass a background check
- Passion for working with and teaching youth of diverse identities and backgrounds
- Two years experience teaching and managing children in a classroom setting or similar related experience
- Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher in grades PreK-8, specifically in presentation skills, student rapport, and adult interaction
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of personalities
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent organizational, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to use personal vehicle for transportation to and from programs
- Willingness to acquire 6 hours of professional development annually
- Passion to learn and facilitate mobile planetarium shows
- Some evening and availability to participate and travel to Family Engagement Nights
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
