Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Chiller Technician to join our maintenance and engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various types of chiller systems, including air-cooled and water-cooled chillers. The technician must be able to read blueprints and technical diagrams, perform inspections, and ensure systems operate efficiently and comply with safety regulations.
The Chiller Technician will work closely with other HVAC professionals, engineers, and facility maintenance teams to ensure optimal system performance and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain, and repair chiller systems (centrifugal, screw, scroll, absorption, etc.), Boilers, air handlers, pumps and cooling towers.
- Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on chillers, boilers, and related HVAC equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, and associated systems.
- Replace or repair components such as compressors, motors, valves, heat exchangers, and refrigerant lines.
- Charge and recover refrigerants in compliance with environmental and safety standards (EPA regulations).
- Calibrate and test system controls and sensors to ensure optimal operation.
- Monitor system performance and perform adjustments to maximize efficiency.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Keep accurate service records and complete maintenance logs and reports.
- Adhere to safety protocols and company policies to ensure safe working environments.
- Respond to emergency repair calls and provide timely resolution.
- Ensure compliance with local HVAC codes and standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical certification in HVAC or refrigeration
- 3+ years of experience in chiller maintenance and repair.
- 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC systems.
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) required.
- Solid understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and HVAC instrumentation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy equipment.
Work Environment:
- May involve working in confined spaces, rooftops, or mechanical rooms.
- Exposure to hot or cold environments, loud noise, and hazardous substances.
- May require on-call availability for emergencies and occasional weekend or night shifts.
