POSITION: Medical Assistant
LOCATION: West Enfield & Lincoln
STATUS: Full-time & Per Diem positions available
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: varies depending on position
SUMMARY: Assists provider in the immediate care of patients and performs all related duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Maintains confidentiality and always protects patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.
- Works within their team to create and sustain a patient centered model of quality healthcare.
- Performs pre-planning for patient visits.
- Greets and escorts patients to the exam room.
- Accurately obtains and records a full set of vital signs, medication reconcile, review allergies, update past medical history, surgical history, social history, and chief complaint.
- Prepares patients and assists providers with examinations, minor surgical procedures, treatments, and chaperones any patient exam as requested by the patient and or provider.
- Utilizes the electronic medical record effectively for all patient documentation and achieving and maintaining QI measures.
- Continuously working to keep outstanding orders at a minimum.
- Assures cleanliness and tidiness of all exam rooms after each patient visits.
- Maintains sterilization of all instruments.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by a provider.
- As requested by providers, CLIA waved testing and controls, EKGs, ear irrigations, and phlebotomy. Administers oxygen, immunizations, and nebulizer treatments per provider request.
- Discusses and clarifies issues with patients at the end of their appointment.
- Provides patient education as necessary.
- Monitoring and maintaining Providers controlled substance panel as directed in the Controlled Substance Monitoring and Prescribing policy.
- Reports test results to patients promptly once Provider reviews it.
- Reviews and handles all phone messages before forwarding to the physician.
- Maintains a good awareness of HAN policies and procedures that can be viewed on the shared drive.
- Performs electronic prescribing of patient’s maintenance medication per prescription refill standing order.
- Assesses whether patients have cultural or linguistic barriers and arranges for an interpreter as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Assistant Degree required or equivalent experience
- Computer skills a must
- Excellent team work and communication skills
RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Coordinator or Site Coordinator
INFECTED WASTE EXPOSURE: This position is at risk for exposure to infected waste. The employee is required to know and follow the procedures designed to minimize exposure detailed in the OSHA Manual.
