Job Title: Lumber Inside Sales Representative
Job Summary
The Lumber Inside Sales Representative is responsible for supporting customers by providing product knowledge, pricing, and order management for lumber and building materials. This role works closely with contractors, builders, and internal teams to ensure accurate quotes, timely order processing, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers via phone, email, and walk-in inquiries
- Provide accurate pricing, quotes, and product recommendations for lumber and related building materials
- Process sales orders, purchase orders, and returns efficiently and accurately
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders, and retail customers
- Coordinate with outside sales reps, yard staff, and delivery teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment
- Monitor inventory availability and communicate lead times or substitutions when needed
- Resolve customer issues, including order discrepancies, delivery concerns, and product questions
- Maintain customer accounts, pricing structures, and sales documentation in the system
- Stay knowledgeable on lumber grades, dimensions, species, and market trends
- Other tasks as needed to support the team
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (additional education in construction or business is a plus)
- Previous inside sales experience preferred, ideally in lumber, building materials, or construction supply
- Strong knowledge of lumber products, terminology, and applications (or willingness to learn quickly)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Proficiency with order entry systems, CRM software, and basic computer applications
- Team-oriented mindset with a proactive and problem-solving attitude
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Occasional lifting of sample materials or paperwork (typically under 25 lbs.)
Work Environment
- Office and sales counter environment within a lumber yard or building materials facility
- Regular interaction with customers, yard staff, and delivery drivers
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly wage: $18-25/hr, depending on experience
