Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Production Planner to join a growing manufacturing team specializing in custom machinery. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a job shop manufacturing environment who excels at scheduling work orders, coordinating production activities, and ensuring projects move efficiently from engineering through manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain production schedules for custom machinery and project-based manufacturing.
- Translate engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and project plans into executable production schedules.
- Coordinate with Engineering to manage design changes and assess schedule impacts.
- Work closely with Procurement to ensure timely availability of materials, components, and subassemblies.
- Balance shop capacity, labor availability, and machine utilization to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor production progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to keep projects on schedule.
- Prioritize and adjust work orders based on changing customer and project demands.
- Support make-versus-buy decisions and coordinate subcontracted work when needed.
- Maintain accurate production planning data within ERP/MRP systems.
- Communicate schedules, risks, and production status to project managers and leadership.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing coordination.
- Experience in a job shop, custom machinery, automation, fabrication, or project-based manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, assembly, wiring, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems and production planning software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
