PRN Surgery RN
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Circulator is responsible for coordinating all nursing care, patient safety needs, and the needs of the surgical team in the Operating Room (OR) during an invasive or operative procedure. This RN is responsible for established surgical standards of nursing practice. The circulator is in charge of managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment in the OR. They should promote teamwork with physicians and other healthcare givers.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education:
Minimum: Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing and in good standing with the Missouri Board of
Nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum: Interest to learn and support the Surgery Department
Preferred: Six (6) to twelve (12) months experience in surgical nursing, including experience in the
operating room in which skill has been demonstrated.
BSN or MSN
LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS
Minimum: Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri
Basic Life Support (BLS) ,Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life
Support (PALS)
Preferred: Association of Operating Room Nurse Certification (AORN)
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES REQUIRED

- Pays close attention to details. Seeks assistance/guidance when necessary.
- Completes necessary documents according to Hospital and departmental policy.
- Evaluates and follows-up on services provided.
- Provides necessary services to those customers with whom the hospital serves.
- Displays sensitivity to needs of customers. Supplies customers with emotional as well as technical clinical support.
- Scheduling of patient’s procedures, talks with patient and manages pre-operative instructions to
patient per physician orders.
- Displays polite behavior to customers. Demonstrates positive relations in dealing with customers.
- Speaks in a positive, professional manner about customers and the hospital.
- Responds promptly to customers’ requests and needs in a timely fashion.
- Displays good organizational skills and utilizes time wisely. Seeks additional work upon completion of assignments. Assesses each situation before taking action.

- Monitors Surgery Department environment daily and assures surveillance of safety issues and infection control program. Reports environmental problems to Surgery Nurse Manager.
- Provides liaison between the Surgery Department and other departments such as Nursing, Maintenance, Pharmacy, and Materials Management.
- Maintains compliance with Surgical Services clinical competencies for circulating, scrub nurse. Same Day Surgery nurse, post anesthesia recovery nurse, and Central Sterile duties.
