Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and patient-centered Medical Assistant to join our orthopedic team. In this role, you will serve as an integral clinical partner to physicians and other providers, supporting our mission of delivering excellence in orthopedic care. This position is ideal for Medical Assistants who are committed to elevating the patient experience at every stage of care.
Candidates familiar with workers' compensation cases and related documentation are highly valued, though this experience is not required. Experience or interest in supporting marketing activities is a plus.
Essential Job Functions and Standards:
- Assist with patient preparation for examinations, including explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort
- Accurately document medical history in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Prepare exam and procedure rooms, ensuring appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment are available
- Assist physicians during examinations and in-office procedures
- Apply and remove durable medical equipment (DME) as directed
- Perform wound checks, suture removal, and dressing changes
- Prepare injections per physician protocols
- Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and stocking of clinical areas
- Answer phones, schedule appointments
- Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative instructions, and use of orthopedic devices
- Coordinate imaging, diagnostic testing, and physical therapy referrals
- Facilitate communication between patients, providers, case managers, and employers when applicable
- Prepare and transmit work status documentation, and disability forms
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and adhere to OSHA and infection control standards
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service education, and ongoing competency evaluations
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This position operates in an orthopedic clinic setting and may come into contact with blood, body fluids, chemicals, sharp instruments, x-ray exposure, and cleaning agents. This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds. The role involves standing, stooping, kneeling, and walking throughout the workday. Manual dexterity sufficient to handle instruments and operate equipment is necessary. Visual acuity is required to inspect instruments for cleanliness and defects. Frequent use of a telephone is also required.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant certification or relevant clinical experience
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
