General: University Avenue Discovery Center (UADC) is hiring a part-time teaching assistant for our Center classrooms. This part-time position hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30p.m.
This position is supervised by the Executive Director and is represented by the UADC Executive Board of Directors. UADC offers a competitive salary. The ideal candidate will have coursework and experience pertaining to education. Interested parties should submit a resume.
Purpose: To assist teachers in providing developmentally appropriate childcare and educational experiences to children 3 years - 5 years old. At this time, teaching assistants monitor the classroom, set up for snack, and put cots away as students wake up. Other duties can include reading stories, small projects, and playground fun! UADC also has a large gym space for inclement weather days.
Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older.
- 3 university credits in Early Childhood Education or a 40 hour technical school course as approved by the Department of Children and Families.
- Good communication skills, cooperative attitude, ability to work alone, take responsibility, show initiative, and take direction.
- A completed criminal background disclosure and eligibility to work in a childcare program under Wisconsin background check law are required. Candidates will be evaluated according to Wisconsin’s ‘substantially related’ standard for childcare employment.
- Proof of COVID‑19 vaccination or an approved medical or religious accommodation.
- After hiring date: Center orientation and training including state regulations and NAEYC standards; classroom schedule and routines; child guidance policies and regulations; Child Abuse and Neglect training; Shaken Baby Prevention Training; Emergency drills and evacuation procedures; Tb test and health report as required by state guidelines, CPR, First Aid, and AED training.
Goals for Working with Children: To assist in developing a positive self-concept by creating a comfortable and safe atmosphere in which children can interact. To assist in developing physical awareness by providing an opportunity for large and small motor activities, both in and out of doors.

- To assist in developing creative abilities by offering opportunities for self-expression in art, music and dramatic play.
