Position Summary The Shift Supervisor provides leadership and operational oversight during assigned shifts while also performing direct resident care as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) and supporting medication administration as trained and assigned. This position serves as the primary on-site operational leader during evenings, weekends, and times when department leadership is unavailable. The Shift Supervisor ensures resident care standards are maintained, staff assignments are completed, resident requests are addressed promptly, and community operations remain organized and compliant throughout the shift.
Primary Responsibilities:
Shift Leadership
- Provide leadership and direction to caregivers and med passers
- Ensure staffing assignments are completed and adjusted based on resident needs
- Monitor workflow and redistribute staff as needed
- Address resident, family, and staff concerns
- Communicate significant issues to Charge nurse, Health Services Director, or Administrator
Resident Care and Medication Support
- Perform all duties of a Personal Care Assistant
- Assist residents with activities of daily living
- Respond to pendant calls and emergencies
- Assist with transfers and two-person assists
- Provide resident support wherever needed
- Assist medication passers as assigned and within certification and state regulations
- Provide medication coverage when qualified and assigned
- Monitor medication pass progress to ensure timely completion
Operational Oversight
- Conduct routine rounds throughout the community
- Ensure resident rooms and common areas are safe and clean
- Monitor dining services and meal assistance
- Verify resident checks, safety rounds, and documentation are completed
- Ensure staff remain on task throughout the shift
- Ensure call lights and pendants are responded to promptly
Communication
- Report incidents immediately
- Ensure incident reports are initiated before the end of the shift
- Communicate staffing concerns and resident changes
- Provide shift report to incoming leadership
Customer Service
- Respond professionally to resident and family concerns.
- Promote a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Lead by example through professionalism and accountability.
Qualifications
- Certified Medication Aide or Med Passer qualification with hands on experience
- 3+ years experience as a PCA in assisted living or memory care.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience in client communication including crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation methods
- Ability to make sound decisions during emergencies.
- Supervising experience in assisted living or related healthcare settings preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and data collection purposes
