Job Overview
We are seeking an Industrial Automation Engineer to support our manufacturing operations and automation systems. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and improving automated equipment used in paper and plastic bag production.
The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial controls, PLC programming, electrical systems, and manufacturing automation. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can diagnose equipment issues, optimize machine performance, reduce downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives across our production lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automated manufacturing equipment used in paper and plastic packaging production
- Program, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-controlled machinery and automation systems
- Diagnose electrical, controls, and automation issues affecting production equipment performance
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, motor controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Develop and implement automation improvements to increase machine reliability, efficiency, and production output
- Assist with machine upgrades, equipment installations, and automation projects
- Perform programming changes and adjustments to improve machine operation and reduce production downtime
- Analyze machine failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues
- Support preventative maintenance programs for automated production equipment
- Calibrate and troubleshoot sensors, switches, actuators, and control devices
- Read, interpret, and update electrical schematics, control drawings, and machine documentation
- Assist production teams with machine setup, troubleshooting, and process optimization
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for automation improvements
- Support troubleshooting of bag-making equipment, converting machinery, sealing systems, cutting systems, and related production equipment
- Maintain accurate documentation of programming changes, repairs, and equipment improvements
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- 1-5+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing automation
- Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Experience with HMI programming, machine controls, and industrial communication systems
- Strong understanding of electrical controls, automation components, and industrial equipment
- Experience troubleshooting motors, drives, sensors, relays, and control panels
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Experience with manufacturing equipment, packaging machinery, converting equipment, or production automation preferred
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance and machine reliability practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Key Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field preferred
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems and manufacturing equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in a production environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures
- Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
- Ability to work effectively with maintenance, production, and engineering teams
- Willingness to learn new equipment, technologies, and manufacturing processes
