STS is now hiring a Weekend Custodian within the Northeastern School District!
Schedule: Hours may be flexible, but staff typically works 2, 12hr shifts
- 7AM-7PM Saturday
- 6:30AM-6:30PM Sunday
Pay: Starting at $15/hr
Job Duties:
- Day to day job duties of Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel are determined by the Lead Maintenance superior or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), school(s), and/or school district. Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel must comply with the duties outlined by their superior.
Essential Functions:
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule; student and/or district need. This position involves a wide scope of responsibility. Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Report to the Custodian Lead who is responsible for the direction of janitorial services.
- Can work cooperatively with others and/or work independently without supervision
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures along with refilling restroom dispensers.
- Sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; clean, dust and wipe furniture.
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Light maintenance duties (ex. replace light bulbs)
- Safely operate a school district van and perform routine vehicle checks, monitor fuel levels, refuel the vehicle as necessary, and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns in accordance with district procedure
- Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as district and STS transportation policies and procedures.
- Ability to use basic maintenance tools and machinery.
- Conducts a wide variety of ground maintenance to playgrounds, sports turf, fencing, paving and snow removal.
- Notify the administration of any potential safety dangers on school grounds.
- Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the custodian’s duties.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Manual dexterity to use various maintenance equipment.
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Some stooping, bending and twisting of the body
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. or more
- Frequent physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.

- Knowledge of traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
Qualifications and Required Documents (clearance date range may vary by District)
- Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151)
- FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114)
- Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray (dated within three months)
- Proof of Education - Minimum High School Diploma/GED
- Valid Driver’s License (Clear of Violations), must maintain a clean driving record
- Non-Commercial Class C license is sufficient for a van carrying ten (10) or fewer passengers.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Work is performed in all areas of district buildings, grounds, vehicles, and/or anywhere on district property.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- Exposed to varying degrees of temperature relative to the conditions occurring in nature outside.
- The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
