As a Middle School Social Studies Teacher, you will inspire and support students in reaching their academic and civic goals. You will deliver high-quality, inquiry-based instruction that aligns with Missouri Learning Standards, implementing a rigorous curriculum in a supportive, student-centered environment. Working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and the community, you will create a positive learning experience that empowers every student to analyze the past to navigate the present.
Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Middle School Social Studies (5-9) or Social Science (7-12) .
Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.
Inquiry Expert: You thrive on the C3 Framework (College, Career, and Civic Life) and love using primary sources to spark classroom debates and investigations.
Equity Champion: You are committed to a culturally responsive curriculum that highlights the voices and contributions of all people, ensuring every student sees themselves in the story of humanity.
Adolescent Advocate: You understand the unique social-emotional energy of middle schoolers and know how to channel their natural curiosity into deep academic exploration.
Inspire Critical Thinking: Design and lead lessons that challenge students to evaluate evidence, compare perspectives, and construct evidence-based arguments.
Connect to the World: Help students draw connections between historical events and current global issues, fostering a sense of civic responsibility.
Collaborate for Success: Partner with your grade-level PLC and ELA counterparts to strengthen students' literacy, research, and communication skills.
Utilize Resources: Leverage our district’s proximity to historic sites and community partners to provide immersive, "outside-the-textbook" learning experiences.
Foster Agency: Create opportunities for service learning and civic engagement, helping students see the real-world impact of social science.
Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Contract Days)
Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.
