WUHSMS Substitute Theater Director Job Description
Woodstock Union High School and Middle School seeks a dedicated Theater Director to lead our Yoh Theatre Players program October 2026 through March 2027, with a focus on theater education, inclusion, skill development, and community.
Responsibilities
Direct one or two shows: December 11, 12, 13, 2026 and/or March 12, 13, 14, 2027

Each show has a run of eight weeks with three performances. The substitute director must be present during all working hours of the run, up to 30 hours a week of work.

Choose and cast the plays: our program focuses on theater education and is committed to including and casting all students who want to participate.

Develop acting and technical skills

Promote positive culture, leadership and accountability

Create and implement a rehearsal calendar for each show

Communicate with parents and the school community

Direct rehearsals with 25-50 players

Direct students tech crew: The director is responsible to lead and direct student lighting and sound tech crews. The director will be supported by the help of an off-site set designer, and an on-site set builder to design and build and paint the sets for each show, and oversee set strike. The director will share style and design ideas with our team of parent costume designers and builders who will create costumes for the shows. The director will oversee and direct students who design posters and programs, pull and create props, and take care of the backstage areas.

Work with parents volunteers: This director will oversee parent volunteers who keep our website up to date, work the ticket table, provide food and snacks.

Position Type: Part-time, 30 hours a week for an eight week run of the show, Candidate may apply to direct one or both shows.
