About the Role
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) is responsible for providing speech and language therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. This includes implementing individualized treatment plans for patients with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders; assisting patients with therapeutic activities to improve communication, articulation, language development, and functional skills; and supporting patients and families through education on strategies to enhance communication in daily life.
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant also monitors and documents patient performance during therapy sessions, reports progress and observations to the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, maintains accurate clinical records in accordance with regulatory and facility standards, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to promote continuity and quality of care.
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program
- Current and valid Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the state of practice
- BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- At least 1 year in pediatric occupational therapy experience preferred (home health or early intervention a plus)
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto liability insurance
- Comfortable working independently in home environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Provide speech-language therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist
- Implement individualized treatment plans for patients with speech, language, communication, and swallowing-related goals as directed
- Assist patients with therapeutic activities to improve articulation, language development, fluency, and functional communication
- Educate patients and families on communication strategies and carryover techniques for daily activities
- Observe, document, and report patient performance and progress during therapy sessions
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and facility standards
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support continuity and quality of care
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and move patients or equipment up to 50 lbs with assistance
- Manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity for patient care
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
