Broad Function:
The Adult Education ELL Teacher is responsible for supporting adult learners at beginner through advanced levels, often within multilevel classroom settings, in developing the academic knowledge, life skills, and workforce competencies needed to become productive, self-sufficient individuals.
This role requires a strong understanding of adult learning theory and practice, with instruction designed to be flexible, relevant, and immediately applicable to learners’ real-world goals. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with a diverse population of adult learners, including multilingual professionals, immigrants, and individuals balancing education with work and family responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan and deliver instruction aligned with adult learning principles and learner goals
Integrate workforce readiness, digital literacy, and communication skills into instruction
Utilize Burlington English, the CSDE-supported platform, to support instruction and monitor learner progress
Facilitate and monitor asynchronous distance learning, including assigning modules, tracking engagement, and providing feedback
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse adult learner population with varied educational and professional backgrounds
Design instruction with a clear structure and progression appropriate for multilevel classes
Assess and evaluate student progress, including required standardized testing
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, progress, and outcomes in alignment with state and federal requirements
Select, organize, and request instructional materials appropriate for adult learners
Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment and uphold appropriate standards of behavior
Collaborate with program staff to support learner persistence, goal attainment, and transitions to employment or postsecondary education
Participate in required meetings, professional development, and program improvement efforts
Qualifications:
Valid teaching certification in English to Non-English Speaking Adults (088)
TESOL certification (111)
Experience working with adult learners in educational, workforce, or community-based settings
Experience teaching multilevel classes and/or beginner-level learners preferred
Experience facilitating online or blended learning, including asynchronous instruction with adults preferred
Experience working within a competency-based, data-driven instructional system for adults (such as CCS/CASAS or similar adult education frameworks) is strongly preferred Adult Education 088 required
