Job Title: Manufacturing Supervisor – 2nd Shift (Assembly, Coating & Fabrication)Position Summary
The Manufacturing 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating production activities across Assembly, Coating, and Fabrication departments to ensure safety, quality, and productivity goals are met. This role provides hands-on leadership, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures adherence to company policies, production schedules, and customer requirements during 2nd shift operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
- Supervise, coach, and develop hourly production employees across Assembly, Coating, and Fabrication areas
- Promote a safe, respectful, and high-performance work environment
- Conduct shift start meetings, communicate expectations, and monitor employee performance
- Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and cross-training to meet production demands
- Address employee concerns and administer company policies consistently
Production & Operations
- Oversee daily production activities to meet output, quality, and delivery targets
- Ensure proper workflow and coordination between Assembly, Coating, and Fabrication processes
- Monitor production metrics (efficiency, downtime, scrap, rework) and take corrective action as needed
- Ensure adherence to standard work instructions, production schedules, and specifications
- Minimize downtime through proactive problem-solving and coordination with maintenance
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all products meet quality standards and customer specifications
- Enforce quality control procedures and support root cause analysis for defects
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies
- Lead by example in maintaining a clean and organized work environment (5S principles)
Safety
- Promote and enforce all safety policies and procedures
- Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations
- Identify and mitigate workplace hazards
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operating procedures
Continuous Improvement
- Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize processes
- Collaborate with engineering and leadership teams on process improvements
- Support implementation of new equipment, processes, or technologies
Reporting & Communication
- Maintain accurate shift reports, including production output, downtime, and issues
- Communicate key information across shifts to ensure continuity
- Report on KPIs and participate in production meetings
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3–5+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role
- Experience in Assembly, Coating, and/or Fabrication environments preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team-building skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methods
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills (ERP systems, Microsoft Office)
Working Conditions
- 2nd shift schedule (typically afternoon to evening hours)
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures
- Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting
