Quality Hot Inspector – Forging Operations
Position Summary The Quality Hot Inspector is responsible for performing in-process and final visual and dimensional inspections of hot-forged components to ensure products meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and established quality standards. This position works closely with Forge Operators, Quality personnel, and Production Supervisors to identify defects, prevent nonconforming product from progressing through the manufacturing process, and support continuous improvement of forging operations.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a hot industrial manufacturing environment, and able to accurately identify forging defects while following established inspection procedures and safety requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform visual and dimensional inspection of hot-forged parts during and immediately after the forging process.
- Inspect forgings for defects including:
- Cracks
- Laps and seams
- Folds
- Underfill
- Die mismatch
- Scale and surface defects
- Excessive flash
- Dimensional abnormalities
- Other forging-related defects
- Verify parts against applicable drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Use inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, templates, scales, and other measuring devices.
- Monitor forging quality throughout production runs and identify trends or recurring defects.
- Communicate quality issues promptly to Forge Operators, Production Supervisors, and Quality personnel.
- Segregate, identify, and document nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections as required.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, production documentation, and quality reports.
- Assist with root-cause investigations and corrective actions related to forging defects.
- Verify that proper tooling, dies, processes, and inspection requirements are being followed.
- Participate in quality audits and continuous-improvement activities.
- Support the development and maintenance of inspection standards and visual defect criteria.
- Maintain a clean and organized inspection area.
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and procedures for working around hot metal, forging equipment, and material-handling equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality or Production Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in forging, metal manufacturing, quality inspection, or a similar industrial environment preferred.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and basic manufacturing specifications.
- Ability to use basic dimensional inspection equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual defects.
- Ability to accurately record inspection results.
- Basic mathematical skills, including measurements and fractions/decimals.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Production and Quality personnel.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.
- Willingness and ability to work in a hot, noisy, and physically demanding manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience inspecting hot-forged steel or metal components.
- Knowledge of common forging processes and forging terminology.
- Experience with quality systems and nonconformance procedures.
- Familiarity with GD&T and engineering drawings.
- Experience with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality-management systems.
- Previous experience with SPC, inspection plans, or statistical quality methods.
- Experience identifying and troubleshooting forging defects.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to work in a hot manufacturing environment for extended periods.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials within the requirements of the position.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, and heat-resistant protective equipment as required.
- Ability to work around hot metal, forging presses/hammers, furnaces, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial equipment.
- Must be able to maintain alertness and attention to detail in a high-temperature, high-noise production environment.

Pay: $26.96 - $29.98 per hour
