American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Outpatient Surgery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of OR experience, with a broad surgical skill set across multiple specialties in a 13-room outpatient setting.

Outpatient Surgery unit with 13 operating rooms in a hospital setting

Patient population spans infants through geriatrics

Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM

Every other weekend required

Floating within OR departments required

No on-call required, but must provide coverage for cases that run late

EMR: Epic (preferred); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
-
12-week contract
-
Active GA or Compact RN license required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of outpatient/OR surgery nursing experience required
-
Proficiency across multiple surgical specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, ENT, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Endoscopy, and Thoracic procedures

Skills required include: blood/blood product administration, infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, specimen handling, peripheral IV insertion, universal protocol/time-out procedures, and wound management

Epic EMR experience preferred

Two supervisory references (manager level or above) strongly preferred for consideration — charge nurse references are not accepted

Copies of required certifications must be provided for consideration

Scrubs are provided by the facility

RTO must be finalized at time of submission; no schedule requests accepted after offer — RTO during the first week of assignment is not permitted

Maximum of 7 days RTO per contract

Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers must work at least 2, with 1 holiday RTO request eligible for consideration

Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day

Former permanent, per diem, or FCSS employees must have been away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of 1 full year before applying as a traveler

Travelers who previously canceled or received a DNR must complete one full assignment outside of this health system before reapplying

Local candidates are accepted at the same rate

All onboarding/compliance documents must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and submitted by the Tuesday prior to the start date

No alternate shift arrangements or schedule changes are permitted after offer
