Position Summary
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support services to students receiving special education services in grades K–8. The teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborates with classroom teachers and families, monitors student progress, and ensures students receive a high-quality education in the least restrictive environment appropriate to their needs.
The position may include resource, inclusion, co-teaching, self-contained, or other instructional settings as determined by student needs.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Support
- Provide direct instruction to students receiving special education services.
- Develop and implement individualized instructional strategies based on student needs and IEP goals.
- Modify curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials as appropriate.
- Deliver engaging lessons that promote academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
- Utilize research-based instructional practices and interventions.
IEP Development and Compliance
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and collaborate with parents and staff to develop effective educational plans.
- Implement and monitor IEP accommodations, modifications, and goals.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local special education regulations.
- Ensure all required documentation, reports, and records are completed accurately and on time.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with general education teachers to support student success in inclusive settings.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and needs.
- Collaborate with counselors, interventionists, therapists, administrators, and outside service providers.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Student Progress Monitoring
- Collect, analyze, and use student performance data to drive instructional decisions.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to measure progress toward IEP goals.
- Adjust instructional strategies based on student outcomes and data analysis.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous learning and training.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of Royal Public Schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certification
- Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
Preferred
- One or more years of successful teaching experience in Special Education
- Experience serving students in grades K–8
- Experience with inclusion, resource, and co-teaching models
- Experience using instructional technology and student data systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of special education instructional practices
- Knowledge of curriculum development and differentiated instruction
- Ability to manage student behavior effectively and positively
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Ability to analyze student data and make data-driven decisions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials and classroom supplies
- Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in stressful situations
- May be required to assist with student behavioral interventions consistent with student plans and district procedures

Pay: $58,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
