POSITION: PRESCHOOL INSTRUCTOR
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
SUMMARY:
186 Days
Instructor in the Pre-School Classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be present, on time, and ready to work.
Maintain the high level of ethical behavior that is expected of all Richmond Communities staff.
Maintain confidentiality of information about students and staff.
Prepare instructional materials, learning centers, displays, and bulletin boards.
Instruct students on the classroom routine.
Model appropriate interaction skills, social skills, and conflict management in the school environment.
Direct emergency evacuation/protection of students.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Be organized. Have classroom management skills.
Be adequately informed about the unique developmental characteristics of young children and the implications for curriculum and instruction for young children through age 6. This knowledge should embody an understanding of variations due to such things as cultural differences or the presence of a disability.
Be able to deal with difficult behaviors of children and provide firm but fair discipline.
Be energetic, organized, patient, and creative, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Be well informed about developmental theories and their implications for practice.
Be educated in the liberal arts and knowledgeable about a variety of subjects in order to recognize the learning embedded in children’s activity.
Understand the significance of play to children’s educational development and develop skills facilitating enriching play in early childhood classrooms.
Understand families as the primary context for children’s learning and development, respect diversity in family structure and values, and develop skills in interacting with parents in ways that enhance children’s educational success.
Acquire the ability to critique themselves and coordinate their instruction with other adults, and function as members of a professional team.
EDUCATION:
Must hold a two-year Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
REASONING ABILITY:
Must be able to problem-solve.
