PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Lead Cutter Operator will lead, train, and develop a team of Operators, Apprentices and Die Shop Specialists in the operation and setup of flatbed cutters. They will serve as a positive role model with a focus on reducing set up times, improving troubleshooting skills, and facilitating seamless shift transitions to achieve target efficiencies. The Lead Cutter Operator must be able to operate and troubleshoot all production equipment, maintain in-depth knowledge of all systems and procedures. Support planning and operations of new products and production processes. Additionally, will lead and implement new training initiatives.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Spend daily, intentional time with team members to know and serve them, encouraging their growth and development and providing regular feedback on their progress in training

Drive daily performance of work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.

Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs

Determine standards and production goals based on company policies, equipment and labor availability, and workloads

Inspects materials, products, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.

Implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment, and labor availability to safely achieve target run speed and production goals.

Proactively communicate with Supervisor, and other shift Leads to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments

Maintain operations data, such as scheduling, job tickets, quality samples and production functions.

Ensure safety, 5S and BRCGS standards are being followed and provide coaching as needed; conduct daily process confirmation within your area

Ensure all waste is appropriately segregated by board type during operation/setup and coordinate removal from the line in a timely manner as needed while maintaining operations
-
Confer with management and team members to resolve concerns/issues and complaints by taking action to eliminate, mitigate or escalate as needed to increase support and engagement amongst your team

Adapts to Continuous Improvement and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operations

Takes ownership of self-development in coordination with your Supervisor with a focus on leadership and basic maintenance skills

Effectively utilize team members during machine downtime (not including approved breaks) to maintain a clean and safe work area, develop your team in areas defined by the standard work practice, or support another area in need

Be flexible in hours to work various shifts to cover training needs, may be required to operate cutter when not training

Flow to the work or need of the site with positivity, being proficient within every role to ensure continuous and safe operation; potential to serve as Shift Supervisor in their absence
AUTHORITY: The Lead Cutter Operator must have the ability to lead those assigned to their team to execute the demands of the cutter operation efficiently and to respond to verbal instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum of 3 years of machine operator experience including at least one year in a Lead Operator or Lead role; Cutting experience with flatbed cutter machines in a folding carton operation is required; Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical abilities and skills. Must have ability to effectively lead hourly team members and train in all job requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
