The City of Bristol, Virginia (pop. 17,219) is an independent city located at the crossroads where the paths of four states intertwine in Southwest Virginia, on the other side of the state line from its sister city, Bristol, Tennessee. Bristol, Virginia is a hub of industry and business, including retail, in the region. Easy access and a centralized location draws not only interstate travelers but regional patrons from around the Tri-Cities area!
This position reports to the City Manager and acts as a liaison between the City and the business community to develop and implement economic development programs for the City with the purpose of business expansion, attraction and retention. The department assists new and expanding businesses with locating affordable financing opportunities and
provides various forms of incentives to support these investments.
Duties include assisting in the administration and the review of business development projects. Responsible for City policy governing how tax and other incentives will be awarded to businesses and what level of impact is expected to qualify for particular incentives. Coordinates and implements the City's business marketing strategy. Responsible for the administration and supervision of the Economic Development Department to compliment and connect with City strategic goals and objectives.
Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Marketing, Business Administration, or Public Administration required, Master’s Degree preferred. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Development activities required with five years in a supervisory or managerial position required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
