A Day in the Life of an Electrical Engineer – Medium/High Voltage at Hanson. This role requires licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within six months.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the tasks you may perform in this role:
Design medium- and high-voltage power distribution and management systems for renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, BESS, EV charging, and microgrids.
Prepare specifications, calculations, drawings, and full construction packages for complex electrical systems and equipment ranging from 15kV up to 200kV, including three-line diagrams, substation layouts, grounding design, protection studies, and sag/tension analyses.
Perform electrical studies including short-circuit, arc flash, load flow, power factor, relay coordination, capacity analysis, reliability analysis, and ampacity calculations.
Conduct due diligence, feasibility, conceptual design studies, and inverter-based resource (IBR) interconnection studies; prepare utility master plan reports.
Participate in project management tasks, including client meetings, system design coordination, equipment selection, technical specification development, shop drawing review, and construction administration.
Travel occasionally for client meetings, field reviews, and project assignments, with flexibility to work extended hours when project deadlines require.
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Familiarity with voltage drop, fault current, and arc flash analysis tools (EDR, EasyPower, ETAP, SKM).
Ability to meet all pre-employment requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and MVR review as applicable.
Demonstrated experience preparing electrical construction drawings, specifications, submittal reviews, and providing construction administration for power projects.
Preferred but not required: graduate degree, professional registrations, technical research, or publication experience.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $160,000, based on experience
