SUMMARY
Provides proper care, handling, processing, sterilization and storage of all supplies and equipment, to ensure a high quality product for use in surgical services and throughout the hospital. Provides support to the or by assembling instrument sets and picking case carts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and monitor equipment used for cleaning and sterilizing medical tools to ensure everything is safe and ready for use.
- Prepare and organize surgical tools, trays, linens, and supplies to ensure they are sterile and properly packaged.
- Load sterilizers and follow proper procedures to ensure effective sterilization.
- Assemble and deliver surgical case carts by checking supply lists and verifying details with surgery schedules.
- Clean and inspect medical instruments and equipment before sterilization to make sure all debris and contaminants are removed.
- Identify and remove any damaged or malfunctioning instruments from use.
- Keep accurate records of sterilization cycles, including expiration dates and tracking numbers for all processed items.
- Restock supplies and keep work areas organized by ordering or requesting items as needed.
- Use required safety equipment (such as EO badges) and follow hospital safety protocols at all times.
- Label, log, and deliver both sterile and non-sterile supplies to different hospital departments.
- Stay current with departmental procedures, safety guidelines, and infection control practices.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with hospital staff and visitors.
- Assist in training new team members and help cover tasks in the decontamination area when needed.
- Support efforts to improve processes and quality in the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 12 months from hire date
- Maintain one of the following: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
- Sterile processing or hospital setting experience, a plus.
- Enrollment in a surgical tech / sterile processing program, a plus.
- Medical field experience.
