Foundations Supportive Care is an independent living support provider serving Prince William County, Virginia. Our organization is innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking, and we believe our greatest resource is our employees.
We support adults with autism and co-occurring mental health needs who are working toward greater independence. Our residents are high-functioning and, unlike traditional group homes, do not require 24-hour supervision.
As a Life Skills Specialist, you will serve as a mentor and support system, helping residents achieve their goals of independent living. This role focuses on mentorship, skill development, and therapeutic support, making it ideal for those interested in psychology, social work, counseling, human services, case management, or community-based support.

Position Overview
Life Skills Specialists support residents in building independence while promoting dignity, personal choice, and community inclusion.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching and modeling independent living skills, including budgeting, meal planning, household management, organization, and healthy daily routines
- Serving as a positive mentor and role model
- Supporting residents in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and problem-solving abilities
- Responding therapeutically to maladaptive behaviors while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Assisting residents with household responsibilities, including cleaning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and organization
- Helping residents achieve individualized goals outlined in their support plans
- Planning and participating in community outings, recreational activities, and skill-building opportunities
- Transporting residents to appointments, shopping, employment, and community activities using a company vehicle (no personal vehicle required)
- Completing electronic documentation accurately and on time
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and fellow team members regarding resident progress, concerns, and successes
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, human services, or a related field preferred
- At least one year of experience supporting individuals with disabilities, mental health needs, or other vulnerable populations
- Experience with behavior support, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care or de-escalation techniques preferred
- Ability to pass state and federal criminal background checks and DSS screenings
- Clean driving record
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification (company provided if needed)
