Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Sleep Technician to join our sleep medicine team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive sleep studies, including polysomnography (PSG) testing, to assist in the diagnosis and management of sleep-wake disorders. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in physiology, medical terminology, and sleep medicine, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care. Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic sleep studies utilizing polysomnography (PSG) monitoring equipment, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to established protocols.
- Set up and operate polysomnography equipment, including electroencephalography (EEG), respiratory therapy devices such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) machines.
- Monitor patients throughout sleep studies, observing vital signs, electroencephalography signals, respiratory patterns, and other physiological parameters.
- Conduct physical examinations and assess patient history to tailor sleep study procedures appropriately.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR management), documenting all patient interactions, test results, and procedural notes comprehensively.
- Assist with the application and adjustment of medical equipment, ensuring proper functioning and patient comfort.
- Score sleep test data manually with precision, identifying abnormal events such as apneas or hypopneas to support accurate diagnosis.
- Educate patients about sleep study procedures, safety protocols, and post-study care instructions.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to interpret results and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Maintain proficiency in the operation of polysomnography equipment and stay updated on advancements in sleep medicine technology.
Skills
- Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent credential required.
- Knowledge of physiology related to sleep-wake cycles, anatomy, and respiratory function.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing sleep-wake disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea or insomnia.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation.
- Strong understanding of electroencephalography (EEG), respiratory therapy devices including CPAP/BiPAP machines, and other polysomnography equipment operation.
- Ability to perform manual sleep test scoring with attention to detail.
- Excellent patient care skills with compassionate communication abilities.
- Knowledge of medical equipment operation related to sleep studies and respiratory therapy devices.
- Prior experience working in a sleep center environment is highly desirable.
