Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close process, ensuring all journal entries and reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP and any necessary reports needed for the preparation of financial statements, Department of Insurance, creditors, regulatory agencies and tax authorities.
- Files reports of financial condition with officials of the states where Society is licensed and with Federal authorities. Provides information necessary to complete Annual and Quarterly filings to outside CPA firm for preparation. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing best practice internal controls. Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and industry trends.
- Further develop and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting internal audits and providing information to external auditors.
- Assists the Executive Vice-President with coordination, documentation and maintenance of all facets of the business as related to our outsourced functions, such as CPA’s, actuaries and external auditors.
- Works closely with the Executive Vice-President to prepare budgets and forecasts by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data and recommending plans of action to initiate corrective actions if necessary. Involved in the Strategic Planning and variance analysis as it relates to budget and forecasting process.
- Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations. Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics to achieve optimal corporate performance.
- Prepares special reports as needed by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Code, review and enter all bond purchases, Common and Preferred Sales, and Bond Interest entries to include all calls, sold, pay downs and partial pays into system (Preparation of Schedule D).
- Responsible for oversight of reinsurance accounting functions such as refunds, payments, credits, etc.
- Supervises performance of other tasks that may be assigned for the efficient operation of the Society and protects financial operations risk by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent.
- Professional Certification (e.g. CPA) a plus.
- Four to six years related experience and/or training.
- Knowledge of preparing Financial Statements, Company Budgets and forecasts
- Demonstrated ability to interpret economic conditions and anticipate the impact on the organization.
- Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method.
- Ability to work with all levels of management.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, and accounting software (QuickBooks)

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
