Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for the efficient movement, storage, and handling of materials and products. The Material Handler is essential in maintaining the overall flow of materials and ensuring the correct products are available for further processing, storage, or shipment to customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming materials, ensuring they are in good condition and match the accompanying documentation and adhere to USDA specifications (packing slips, purchase orders, etc.).
· Unload products from trucks or other transportation vehicles safely and efficiently.
· Move materials to designated storage areas using appropriate equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
· Maintain a clean and orderly warehouse, adhering to safety and housekeeping standards.
· Inspect products and materials for damage and report discrepancies to management.
· Follow all food safety, quality assurance, and sanitation requirements, when applicable.
· Assist with other warehouse and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Previous warehouse, distribution, or material handling experience preferred.
· Experience operating forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other powered equipment is preferred.
· Basic math and inventory management skills.
· Ability to read and understand shipping documents, labels, and work instructions in English.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Dependable attendance, including working holidays and weekends, and strong work ethic.
· Basic computer and handheld scanner skills preferred.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the day.
· Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifting may exceed 50 pounds with assistance.
· Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
Work Environment
· Warehouse and distribution center environment.
· Exposure to cold temperatures, due to the required temperature that food must be safely kept at.
· May require overtime, weekends, or holiday work based on business needs.
