Summary
An Operating Room (OR) Circulator Registered Nurse is responsible for managing individualized care of the patient by promoting and restoring health through the nursing process (e.g. monitoring patients, administering medication, keeping records, consulting with providers) in the intraoperative period of the perioperative process.
Responsibilities
Assesses patient status, pertinent history and physical/lab work, allergies and vital signs and notifies provider of any potential foreseen complications or contraindication to procedure and discusses with anesthesiologist and provider.
Monitors and documents all clinical activities related to the patient procedure. Circulates, assembles and provides equipment, devices and supplies to the surgical team while anticipating the needs of the surgical team throughout the procedure.
Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients, patients’ families, provider(s) and others regardless of culture, age or ethnic background.
Follows standards, rules and regulations that govern the center (including: CMS, CO State, TJC, AORN, ASPAN, ANSI, OSHA, AAMI, other organizations). Participates in emergency/disaster preparedness drills.
Skills & Qualifications

General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to materials, medications and supplies for the perioperative setting, doctors, nurses and/or other.
