POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a supervisory position reporting directly to the Park Maintenance Supervisor. The incumbent must be self-motivated and enthusiastic to coordinate the upkeep and general maintenance of the County’s Park Operation areas. The employee is to promote cooperation and teamwork among their crew members and other employees within the Park Operation areas.
The Crew Leader assigns work in terms of both general and precise instructions. He/she is responsible for the supervision and training of crew members, scheduling and assigning work orders on a daily basis, and preparing daily, weekly, semi-annual and annual reports as required.
Guidelines are set forth by Department Operating manuals, A.D.A., O.S.H.A Standards, Playground Safety Manuals and other relevant codes.
While some work is performed in an office, most tasks of this position are performed outdoors, occasionally in heat, cold or inclement weather. They will also be exposed to dirt, grass, dust, grease and machinery moving parts. Protective devices such as gloves, back braces and masks are required.
The work typically requires bending, crouching, stooping, walking, and standing. The work also requires frequent lifting of both light (24lbs or less) and heavy (25lbs or more) objects.
The individual should be able to promote teamwork, create learning opportunities within the division and work with diverse personalities, manage priorities and deftly handle complex issues, while supervising full-time and seasonal employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The Park Maintenance Crew Leader must use their judgement in determining the best approach to be used in assigning tasks to clean and maintain the safety of the county’s park and recreation facilities and equipment. The Parks and Recreation Maintenance Manager will make specific assignments concerning detailed objectives and tasks to be accomplished.
The work in this position consists of organizing, scheduling, supervising and performing tasks which assure that parks and recreation facilities are properly maintained. The work is made complex by a shortage of manpower for some tasks, variations in skill levels of workers and the wide variety of tasks to be performed.
PRINCIPLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The position is responsible for successful upkeep of turf and grounds at park and recreation facilities by managing crew members and assigning work to achieve the department’s standards and goals.

Assist in maintaining records and evaluations of work performance of assigned park maintenance personnel.

Performs periodic safety inspections of park and recreation facilities and takes needed corrective action.

Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance.

Considerable knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to grounds keeping work.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.

Knowledge of irrigation and drainage system design and operation, landscape maintenance and pesticide application.

Knowledge of computer applications and software.

Leading and or supervising the work of other performing grounds maintenance work.

Ability to guide and direct the work of less experienced employees.

Ability to use a variety of hand tools and motorized grounds keeping equipment.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical strength and ability sufficient to meet job requirements for extended period under uncomfortable conditions in all types of weather.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
2-3 years supervisory experience
Possess a State of Georgia Category 24 pesticide license or the ability to obtain within six months of hire.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
