Title: Administrative Assistant
Supervision: Office Manager
Compensation: Part-time, non-exempt, $15.50 per hour
Schedule: 20 hours per week
Working Relationship: The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Office Manager and provides designated administrative and calendar support to the Associate Pastor. The position works collaboratively with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, members, contractors, and visitors.General Job Description:
The Administrative Assistant provides organized, professional, and welcoming administrative support for the daily operation and ministries of Lake Deaton UMC. The position assists the Office Manager, provides designated administrative support to the Associate Pastor, supports Reception volunteers, and serves as an administrative resource to church staff and ministries.
Consistent with Lake Deaton's culture of service and radical hospitality, the Administrative Assistant is expected to respond flexibly to reasonable needs across the church. The Office Manager establishes workload priorities and provides direction when requests compete or require significant ongoing support.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to supporting the Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Goals of LDUMC.
- High school diploma or equivalent; administrative training or experience preferred.
- Previous administrative or office experience preferred, particularly in a church or nonprofit environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and basic editing.
- Ability to interact with staff, volunteers, members, visitors, contractors, and the public with professionalism, warmth, and hospitality.
- Cooperative, flexible, and service-oriented approach to teamwork.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, calendars, and standard office technology.
- Ability to learn and effectively use church management, database, and scheduling systems.
· Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and exercise sound judgment.
Primary Duties:
· Provide administrative support to the Office Manager, Associate Pastor, pastors, and church staff, with competing or significant ongoing requests coordinated through the Office Manager.
· Provide calendar, reminder, and administrative support to the Associate Pastor to assist with upcoming appointments, responsibilities, deadlines, and needed follow-up.
· Extend hospitality to members, visitors, volunteers, staff, contractors, and others who interact with LDUMC in person, by telephone, or through email.
· Support the Office Manager in the day-to-day coordination of Reception volunteers through communication, assistance, and reinforcement of established hospitality and office procedures.
· Perform Reception duties when a Reception volunteer is not available.
· Serve as a point of contact for general administrative questions and appropriately direct inquiries and requests.
· Maintain assigned office records and information using the database and other church administrative systems with accuracy and confidentiality.
· Provide administrative and production support for church ministries, including preparation, proofreading, copying, printing, assembly, and distribution of materials.
· Support the Communication Specialist by helping ensure that accurate and timely information is available from the church office and ministries for church communications and that published information is appropriately available through the church office and Reception.
· Maintain office supplies and administrative materials according to established procedures.
· Maintain the Pastor on Call roster and telephone recordings as needed.
· Support administrative preparations for weekend worship and other ministry activities.
· Participate in departmental and staff-wide meetings and devotions as appropriate.
· Cross-train in designated office responsibilities to provide appropriate backup and continuity.
· Support staff and ministries with special projects, emerging needs, and unusual circumstances consistent with the collaborative service expectations of LDUMC.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Comply with applicable LDUMC personnel, financial, safety, confidentiality, technology, and other church policies and established procedures.

The Administrative Assistant demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to serve while communicating with the Office Manager when competing priorities, workload limitations, or unclear responsibilities require direction.
Pay: $15.50 per hour
