Wrestling Coach
Westtown seeks an experienced wrestling coach. The winter coaching season runs from November 9, 2026, through February 5, 2027. This is a part-time, afternoon position compensated with a stipend.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, Westtown coaches foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture that supports student-athletes' development both on and off the field of play. Westtown coaches are responsible for teaching sport-specific fundamentals and advanced skills, planning and leading organized and engaging practices, and implementing effective game strategies that promote individual growth and team success.
Successful coaches serve as teachers and role models, inspiring student-athletes to pursue a high level of success while emphasizing sportsmanship, self-discipline, resilience, self-confidence, and a healthy perspective on competition and teamwork. Through their leadership, coaches cultivate pride in personal and team accomplishments and help students develop habits and values that extend beyond athletics. Westtown School is a Quaker independent Pre-K to 12, college-preparatory day and boarding school located on a beautiful 600-acre campus in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. Duties and Responsibilities
Observe and promote the rules of Westtown School, the FSL, and PAISAA
Remain current with sport theories and techniques
Attend all coaches' meetings
Evaluate players and select the team
Create a safe, structured, and motivating environment
Plan and implement engaging daily practices
Be responsible for team equipment and uniforms
Manage team discipline
Initiate appropriate and regular communication with student-athletes and parents
Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, participation, and meals
Report and follow up with the athletic trainer regarding injuries
Write and submit individual comments on each student, as scheduled
Collaborate with the assistant coach(es) and student manager
Keep the scorebook current and available
Report areas of concern immediately to the Athletic Directors: fields, transportation, facilities, opposing teams, student behavior, parent issues, etc.
Qualifications
Prior coaching experience required
Prior experience wrestling in high school or college is preferred
Experience working with high school-aged students
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
A positive student-centered approach to coaching
Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, trainers, and other community members
Ability to manage athletes at the appropriate level of the assigned sport
Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge pertinent to the assigned sport
CPR and first aid certified
Valid driver's license
